about

An acoustic song for Ash Wednesday, as part of an ongoing series of songs and prayers based on the liturgical calendar.

This is the first of two songs that were written based on Joel 2:13 for the upcoming Lent/Easter project.

Useless Information: "Dust/Mercy" is the only acoustic song written for the project so far. The original tracks like guitars and ambient instruments and some vocals were recorded on a Zoom recorder in a cottage on an island with no click. The piano was added on later playing along to original demo. All noises, kids laughing or crying and natural ambience were all kept in the mix.

lyrics

Dust / Mercy

you are present in our failures
and in our breaking
you are working
in our doubting
and in our wandering
you are patient
you are working in us

forgive us
for what we’ve done and left undone
O God we pray
oh forgive us
for what we’ve done and left undone
O God of Mercy

oh your mercy and lovingkindness
Meets our pain and our brokenness
lights every shadow - in every corner
of our fading hearts, Lord
you are working in us.

forgive us
for what we’ve done and left undone
O God we pray
oh forgive us
for what we’ve done and left undone
O God of Mercy

we are born from dust - and to dust, we will return
we pray for mercy knowing that it's undeserved.
